In 1905 Ralph C Smedley identified a need to help young men develop the confidence to speak publicly, run meetings and develop the ability to lead. He ran the first unofficial Toastmasters meeting on March 24th 1905. This was the spark that ignited his passion for what was to be Toastmasters.
Over the next 19 year he developed his concept and through much hard work and perseverance, ran the first first official Toastmasters meeting at the YMCA building in Santa Ana California, on October 22th 1924.
Since that day Toastmasters has grown internationally across 145 countries and over 16,000 clubs all continuing Dr Smedley’s dream.
