Realise that people want you to succeed. Our group has practices in place to ensure that everyone in the group is willing you to succeed in your goals. Following is a list of ways we do that.
YOU ARE ALWAYS WELCOME!
When you visit our group, you will be warmly welcomed. We understand that walking into a room full of strangers can sometimes be overwhelming. However, each club is designed to support visitors and members of all race, religion, age, sex and educational status. Specifically at Tropic City, we pride ourselves on being the most diverse group in Townsville.
‘Life isn’t about finding yourself…life is about creating yourself’
Quote by George Bernard Shaw
YOU CHOOSE YOUR PATH
Pathways is the platform that Toastmasters use to develop their skills. This is online and self-paced learning. There are 6 specialised learning paths to choose from. Meeting with your group helps when it comes to practicing your new skills. Electives in these paths help you develop any area you wish: Dynamic Leadership, Engaging Humour, Motivational Strategies, Persuasive Influence, Presentation Mastery and Visionary Communication (Toastmasters International, 2024). This learning is benchmarked for continual best practice and is extremely valuable in streaming your success.
EXECUTIVE SUPPORT
Roles of the executive are set out internationally and designed to enable club growth and achievement (Toastmasters International, 2024). Specifically, the Vice President of Education’s role is to help you with your pathway projects (Lewis, 2022). This team member will check in with you to see how you are progressing and give you the opportunity for assistance. They may choose to assist you themselves, or through an available mentor.
OUR OBJECTIVES
We want you to succeed. We start each meeting by reading out our objectives. Our objectives are designed to streamline success. They are spoken as follows:
Objectives
The fundamental objective of Toastmasters International is to educate men and women through the process of self-improvement and leadership training so that they may increase their confidence and usefulness in business, professional and community life. Toastmasters seek to:
- Improve their oral expression and thought.
- Develop their confidence and ability to speak in public.
- Obtain instruction and experience in the conduct of meetings.
- Promote the habit of analytical listening.
- Assist each other through constructive evaluation.
- Develop their capacity for leadership.
- Promote good fellowship among men and women.
- Advance mutual understanding though more effective communication.
- Foster and encourage ‘Better Listening, Thinking and Speaking’.
WE BUILD EACH OTHER UP
One member of Tropic City Toastmasters will motivate the group with an Invocation each meeting.
The Invocation is like a thought-of-the-day or intention designed to boost confidence and morale. All people in the group get the opportunity to provide a meaningful short statement to build each other up, at some point.
OUR MISSION
The very mission of Toastmasters International is designed around these four values: Integrity, Respect, Service, and Excellence. Our Club Mission and Core Values (Toastmasters International, 2024) are as follows:
Club Mission
We provide a supportive and positive learning experience in which members are empowered to develop communication and leadership skills, resulting in greater self-confidence and personal growth.
